| Undergraduate advisory boardThe Urban Studies Undergraduate Advisory Board (UAB) was established in 1998 as a means to foster closer links between the program's students and faculty. Working closely with the program director, the UAB organizes various events throughout the academic year with the following four goals in mind:
Each year, the Urban Studies UAB helps to plan various events, from assisting at the Majors Fair and College Palooza, to student/faculty dinners and field trips. Some of last year's events are highlighted below. 2007-2008 Urban studies UAB eventsNorthern Liberties tourSaturday, Nov. 3, 2007 - a group of URBS students and faculty met at 12PM and boarded a mini-bus for a tour hosted by Micah Gold-Markel, a Northern Liberties Association board member.
Student-alumni Happy HourThursday, March 27, 2008, 6-8 PM in the Carriage House. URBS seniors and Alumni socialized at an informal wine and cheese event.
Trip to New york cityFriday April 4 - The Urban Studies Program and the UAB sponsored a somewhat annual trip to New York City. They toured the New York Times building, and meet with both the Chief Counsel and Press Secretary to Mayor Bloomberg at City Hall (both are Urbs alums!) Dinner was at a restaurant in Chinatown. college PaloozaA number of URBS students volunteered at the Urban Studies table with a display (and samples) of various cheesesteaks from city vendors. A history of the famous Philly sandwich was available to all interested parties.
cuban photo exhibit and dinnerWednesday, April 30, 6PM - Andy Turner (Class of 2008) presenting photos that he took in Cuba while collecting research for his senior thesis. The exhibit was entitled Cuban Propaganda. Mexican food from Zocolo was enjoyed by all.
